About the Role:As the Controller, your laser-focus is the accuracy of financial reporting and the integrity of its internal controls. About You:You are an impact player: people-focused and detail-oriented. You enjoy problem solving and thinking outside the box, but you understand the importance of good processes and you enjoy helping build and refine them. You are committed, tenacious, curious and conscientious but most of all, you love to win as part of a team. You have a CPA designation in good standing and a minimum five years of progressive accounting experience. You have strong knowledge of accounting principles and concepts, and experience with accounting and IT software and internal controls.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage, monitor and streamline accounting operations, including A/R, A/P, accounting and financial reporting

  • Assisting cash management processes, including cash flow projections and online banking

  • Coordinate an effective, efficient and timely month-end close process, including ownership of the general ledger, preparation of variance analysis and other relevant reporting insights

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements, including preparation of supporting schedules, drafting notes as required

  • Prepare technical accounting analysis on non-standard transactions and new accounting pronouncements, including impact on existing processes and systems

  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting working papers and supporting schedules

  • Manage all aspects of the financial audit

  • Ensure CRA information returns and tax payments are filed by due dates

  • Prepare and attend to government audits, ie. CRA, WCB

  • Liaison with banks for credit review and periodic compliance reporting

  • Manage accounting system and files including being an active participant in the enhancement, maintenance and optimization of finance systems strategy and integrations

  • Establish and enhance formal processes for internal controls

  • Provide leadership to the Finance team, focusing on continual performance improvement, staff development and succession planning

  • Support cross-functional initiatives by assisting in the design and implementation of related financial processes

  • Review and approve employee expenses in accordance with the company policy

  • Enthusiastically perform other duties as required.

Administrative Duties:

  • Create, review and update company policies, employee handbook, workplace rules with reference to local laws and regulations and major customer’s requirements.

  • Review Company’s property and liability insurance, Cargo Insurance, marine cargo insurance and liaison with insurance brokers for annual renewal.

  • Review Employee Benefits (extended health & dental) programs with insurance broker for annual renewal.

Capabilities + Experience Required:

  • CPA Designation;

  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience

  • Experience as a people manager

  • Rockstar work ethic and attitude in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

  • Exceptional organization and communication skills

  • Attention to detail and commitment to follow-up

  • Experience working with remote execs and teams; and

  • Experience in a high-growth company is a considerable asset.
